FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In order to improve service to the citizens of Chesapeake Beach, Mayor Bruce Wahl today is announcing an ongoing series of “Mayor’s Night Out” meetings to meet and discuss concerns and issues that affect the citizens of Chesapeake Beach.  In addition to the Mayor, the Town department heads and a Resident Deputy Sheriff will be in attendance.  The Town Council has also been invited to attend, especially when the meeting is targeted to a Council Member’s neighborhood.

The neighborhood meetings will take place at the Chesapeake Beach Town Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month. The September meeting will be on the second Monday due to the Labor Day Holiday.  The schedule for the first six meetings is as follows:

  • Richfield Station – August 3, 2009
  • Bayview Hills – September 14, 2009
  • Baycrest, Horizons on the Bay and Sea Gate – October 5, 2009
  • Windward Key, Chesapeake Station, Courtyards at Fishing Creek and Captain’s Quarters – November 2, 2009
  • North Side of Town from 26th Street to First Street, including Cox Road, Wesley Stinnett Subdivision and those that live in the Town limits in The Highlands – December 7, 2009
  • South Side of Town from Harbor Road south to and including Chesapeake Village – January 4, 2010.

Citizens may attend any session that is convenient, and are not limited to the session for their neighborhoods.  The presence of the Department Heads and the Sheriff’s Deputy will allow immediate responses to concerns.  It will no longer require a week for citizens’ concerns to reach the appropriate staff member.

This series of meetings will necessitate a change in the Mayor’s schedule.  Beginning in August, Mayor Wahl will reserve the first Mondays for “Mayor’s Night Out”.  The new schedule for the “Mayor’s Open Door” will be held on the Monday prior to each Town Council Meeting from 4 – 5:30 p.m.  Any citizen that needs to see the Mayor at other times may contact the Town Hall Staff to schedule an appointment.  The Mayor will continue to spend every Monday except holidays in Town Hall.

Summer Trash Schedule

Beginning in June, the Town will revert to the summer household trash pickup schedule.  There will be two household trash pickups every week by our trash contractor.  The second day will be your regular recycle day.  Which means on that day your recyclables will be picked up in one truck and your household garbage will also be picked up on the same day by another truck.  This service will run through the end of October.

When a holiday falls during the work week your trash will be picked up on the next day after your scheduled pickup. Holidays for the last quarter of 2009 through January 1 are:

Message from the Sheriff's Department

REMINDER:   Please keep your vehicles and houses locked at all times. Every theft from a vehicle in Chesapeake Beach has been because it was not locked.  The Sheriff's Department cannot stress enough how important it is to keep your vehicles and homes locked.

Leaf and Limb Pick-up

Yard debris is picked up every Tuesday through November.  You do not have to call ahead to schedule the pick-up.

Sticks, twigs, and branches must be cut into three-foot lengths and bundled together.   If you have a whole tree cut down, it is the responsibility of the contractor or yourself to have the tree taken away.

Yard debris will not be picked up if it does not comply with these requirements.

The Town of Chesapeake is Participating in Geocaching

A geocache trail is a series of geocaches tied together by a common theme. The theme of the Maryland Municipal League Geocache Trail is Celebrating Maryland’s Cities and Towns. The trail is comprised of 78 city/town caches located in the 11 MML Districts (regions) throughout the state. A collectible, highly coveted geo coin will be given to the first 500 geocachers who locate a minimum of 22 city/town caches throughout the state.  To be eligible for the coin, geocachers must pick up a passport at any participating visitor center, use the stamp in each cache on their passports and write in the cache code word. After at least 2 municipal caches in each district are discovered, geocachers may return to one of the county visitor centers and have their passports validated to receive a collectable coin.   To view press release, please click here

If any businesses wish to participate by bringing items to the Town Hall, we will make sure that your item gets put into the geocache box.  We are looking for anything that may have your business name or logo on it to attract people to your business.
